Frequently Asked Questions

Using a handheld device, we are able to deliver laser light which travels down the colour pigment in darker hair colours (such as brown and black) to the hair follicle. This means the treatment is not suitable for blonde, white and grey hair.

Laser energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle while your hair is in its active phase of growth. The laser light is converted into heat, causing thermal damage to the follicle without harming the surrounding tissue. Hair re-growth is therefore impeded in the damaged follicle.

We conduct a test spot on all clients receiving any kind of laser treatment, to ensure there is no adverse reaction. For compliance with regulations and the safety of our clients we require to carry out a test spot at least 24 hrs prior to any treatment, and after annual services/maintenance of our equipment is carried out.

Our lasers are serviced and continually maintained to ensure our equipment always runs at optimum levels, and that we provide a beneficial service to all our clients. Therefore, depending on the timing of your laser treatments, you may be asked to attend the clinic for more than your initial test spot. The laser technician will provide further details to you.

We will give you protective goggles to wear during the procedure. Using a handheld device, we are able to target the laser to the appropriate areas of hair growth. The laser is delivered in short bursts to protect your skin and the handset features built-in skin cooling. Many people say that the treatment feels similar to plucking but it is usually only a minor discomfort. We will apply a soothing gel to the treated area at the end of the procedure.

Sessions for an upper lip or small bikini area can take as little as 15 minutes, while larger areas on your back and legs may require up to 60 minutes or more.

Only 30% or less of your hair may be in the active growth phase at any one time, depending on the body area. This means that you will need a series of treatments to achieve the long-term hair reduction you’re looking for, although you should notice some reduction after your first treatment.

Our experience tells us that for long-lasting optimal results, you can expect to need three to eight treatments to each area. Six to eight treatments is average, based on treating fairly coarse, dark hair. Finer and/or lighter coloured hair may need more treatments.

As hair grows in cycles, a number of treatments will be necessary to give optimum results. We usually recommend spacing laser hair reduction treatments approximately four to twelve weeks apart, based on treatment area, hair growth cycles and how many treatments you have already had. Our Aesthetic Laser technicians will advise you of a suitable time frame for each subsequent appointment.

Your skin may be slightly red immediately after the treatment but this should dissipate within a couple of hours. It’s advisable to avoid very hot water and sun exposure during this time also.

Laser Hair Reduction starts from £45 for an extra small area. Click here for our full pricing structure.
